Community Engagement

We consider engagement and consultation with local communities, regional NGOs, religious groups, regional authorities and the national government as essential principles underpinning our investments in the Cordillera and Cajamarca. In the Cordillera del Condor, we believe Minera Afrodita's approach to engaging the communities potentially affected by the project is in line with international best practices. It is based on three basic values:
  • Open and transparent communication about project developments and decisions.
  • Early notification to affected stakeholders of public meetings, consultations and release of information about projects.
  • Involving local communities in decisions about how they want to be consulted, so that the consultation is meaningful to all parties.
Before submitting applications for exploration permits in the Cordillera, Minera Afrodita, in consultation with government agencies, holds information workshops in the community at which exploration activities are explained in full in the local dialect. In order to facilitate community participation, Minera Afrodita provides assistance, such as transportation to the workshops where community members have an opportunity to ask questions about the work and voice any concerns.
