Community Engagement:
We respect and value the fundamental human rights, cultural heritage and indigenous traditions of our employees and the communities in which we operate. We seek to continually engage with local communities, regional NGO's, religious groups, regional authorities and national government. Public meetings are held on an ongoing basis as the project develops, providing detailed information and identifying potential concerns from communities. Our priority is to assess how the Cordillera del Condor exploration project may impact the community and how the community may benefit from the exploration project.
Community Development:
We are committed to making a positive difference in the communities in which we work. The Cordillera del Condor is a remote area and population centres of significant size are located 20-60km from the project. In those communities, several development projects have been funded by Minera Afrodita, including the construction of a clean water supply system and provision of electricity. Access to medical staff and supplies has been another area where a positive impact has been made on the community.
The scale of these projects is considered appropriate for the early stage of project assessment and will grow with continued success. Regardless of the ultimate success or failure of the exploration, we seek to ensure that community benefits are long-term and sustainable.
Employment:
The processes of mineral extraction and mineral exploration bring job opportunities to the communities in the Cordillera del Condor. Since the area is remote, mineral exploration can have a highly positive effect on the surrounding communities. We continually seek to assess the capacity of local providers and to build that capacity as the project develops.
Exploration, undertaken by Minera Afrodita, employs 80 staff through the field season, including geologists, engineers, technicians, medics and manual labour. Up to 20% of the staff requirements are fulfilled by the neighbouring communities and with training, that figure could grow in future years. This figure excludes indirect employment.
ENVIRONMENT
Dorato seeks to minimize environmental impact and footprint. The Cordillera del Condor project is in the earliest stages of exploration and assessment of potential to host an economic mineral deposit. Future mine development and associated environmental impact is dependent on the results of exploration over the coming years. Dorato ensures compliance with all environmental regulations and ensures that all employees and contractors understand their responsibilities in the area of environmental protection. Mitigation against environmental damage is a priority in everything we do.
SAFETY
The safety and health of our workers is fundamental to our business principles and every person has a right to a safe and healthy work environment. We aim for Zero Harm and implement stringent Health and Safety standards and provide the required resources to ensure employee safety at work.
